Welcome to the White Rose Ultra which starts and finishes at:

Below is some important information to help you prepare for race day. Have a read through, and if at the end you still have questions please get in touch via email.
If you are late to registration you won't be starting the race. Make sure you know where you are going and where you are parking - don't leave any of this to the last minute. Research this right now print off the route. Staff are busy on event day and will not be available to guide you over the phone!
At registration, you will need to bring with you one form of photo identification. This can be a photo-card driving licence, passport or any other identification card or membership card as long as it has your photo on it. We have to be strict on this one – no ID, no start. Also, bring along your run pack (rucksack/bumbag etc) as there will random kit checks.
Race Number
At registration you will receive your Race Number.
Baggage
Parking
There is plenty of free parking around race HQ - see map above.
Mandatory Kit
The mandatory kit list has been on our website for a while now, so hopefully you will have already got your kit sorted. However just as a reminder: you are required to take with you, and have with you at all times, the following items:
The mandatory kit is for all of you, there are no exceptions.
Note;
Kit Check
This will happen at random times throughout the day. A member of our team will simply ask you to show one item from the above list. If you cannot produce the item from your own kit, you will be DQ'd on the spot.
How can I check race results
Race results will be published live during the event and uploaded to our site after the race ends, on our website under the 'Event Results'. On the day results will be available from the Race Results centre - located near the Finish Line. We may even email the result to you but we can't promise this! It is your responsibility to visit the website if you want them in a hurry!
Can under 18-year olds enter your events
We are sorry but due to Child Protection and Insurance restrictions, we do not currently allow any under 18s to enter this event.
But keep in touch or drop us an email as this might be changing.
Event Emergency Phone Number
In the event of an incident that requires urgent medical attention in the hospital, call 999 or 112 and depending on your location request either the ambulance (if you are near a road or town) or if you are somewhere remote ask for the police and then ask for the mountain rescue. Note 112 is the better choice for mobiles as you will not need to enter the phones pin number and the phone will search for other networks. After calling the emergency services, please notify our Event HQ – number below.
Please call this number if you require any assistance during the event.
The number is:
07549 309 086
Please put this number in your phone before the start of the race, actually put it in right now– just in case (it won't be active until 08:05 on race day!)
The Route
The route is very well marked. The signs we use are white way markers with a black arrow - an example will be available to see at registration. Occasionally these are tampered with, so it is worth checking out the route section of the website in advance!
As a word of caution - the two lost runner incidents we have had in the past 10 years, one was due to people following a person who had pulled out of the race and was been picked up by his mum. The second, a chap was going off route to a supermarket, he managed to draw quite a following! Run your own race.
Route Specific Notes
You must follow the route as marked/specified.
You MUST visit all the aid stations along the route as these also act as checkpoints for your safety.
Take care crossing roads as you will cross busy main roads along the route.
Please respect the local residents in the villages and towns along the route by keeping any noise to a minimum – especially when you are passing through these places at night.
Cut Offs
We have decided to be a little more generous with the cut offs this year, to hopefully allow everyone to complete the Winter route without any added stress.
Cut off times - the physical cut off time is as follows. After this time, for your safety, you will be removed from the course and have to return to Event HQ. Miss the cut off, no finish after this time.
WRU 30 - 8 Hours
Retirements
If for any reason you decide not to continue to the finish, please either report to an event marshal – giving them your name and race number or call the event emergency number and we will advise you what to do. Please do not jump on a bus, get a lift, go home or back to your hotel before doing this. If we do not hear from you at the end of the event, we will have no choice but to call out the emergency services to look for you, this cost will be passed on to you.
Photography
We will have our event photographers popping up along the route taking pictures of you all. The event photographs will be available on our Facebook page shortly after the event, and on our online portfolio. All our photos are free to download and use.
Spectators
Your supporters are very welcome to come along to cheer you on, but we do not allow them in or at the feed stations, these are competitor only areas. We would also ask that spectators do not park on the roads near the feed stations as this will result in a lot of congestion and may impede runners, putting them in danger from other road users. Consider this, an event of this size struggles to have a good amount of support staff so don't be surprised if we ask your supporters Crew and/or pacers to assist others and not just you!
Supporters, Crew and Pacers
Crew and or pacers are not allowed. If they want to run with you, they sign up with you.
Post-race Meal
We have arranged a hot food BBQ for all competitors at the finish, and you can prepay for this when you register for the event. Supporters and family can pay on the day. A wristband will be given to each participant at registration on the day for a well earned meal and plenty of tea and coffee.
Results
The final result list will appear on the website shortly after the event has finished. The results will be live on the website as everyone crosses the finish line.
Support Staff
An event like this does not happen without the generous support of our lovely volunteers. This year we are low on staff so please ask any friends or family that might come along with you if they could spare a few hours to assist at a feed station. If so can you ask them to contact [email protected] asap.
(Free entry for them or you, to the Winter 2023 WRU or a similar event!)
Refunds - Change of entry - Deferrals
From the moment you sign up for the event, we start to incur costs; event insurance and affiliation levy. Two months before event day, t-shirts and medals are purchased. One month before all feed station stocks are pre-ordered. For these reasons we simply do NOT offer refunds under any circumstances, this applies to deferrals or name changes.
We have had to stop all the following due to misuse and abuse!
Refunds are not available, there will be NO refunds.
Deferrals are not available, there will be NO deferrals.
Name change is not available, you can not change the name on your entry.
Cup-Less
As a step towards zero waste at our events, we are cup-less for the White Rose Ultras. This simply means that if you are not carrying a water bottle etc, you will need to bring some form of a cup. That way, we don't have to dispose of over 600 plastic cups! Before anyone suggests we are being tight, we only pay about £2.99 per 100 cups, it's simply a huge amount of waste!
NO cups, this means there are no cups at the event for hot or cold drinks. BAC Outdoor Leisure have in stock the Hydropack Speed cup (just an example of what is available).
What support is available along the route
Full support is available at Event HQ, this includes first aid, physio, toilets, water etc. On the route the feed stations locations can be found on the route page section of this website.
What is the terrain
This is a multi-terrain course, with hills, one or two big hills! Sections of natural tracks and trails, with some fantastic views! The last two or three miles is a lovely long downhill or was it uphill...
What kit do I need to bring on the day
There are several things that you will need on the day to help you to perform your best. The following list is just a suggestion of what we have found useful - talk to other athletes, marathoners, join a local club who will be able to give you some great advice and develop a list to best suit you.
Are there any water/feed station?
There are water stations every few miles on the White Rose Ultra course. Some of the drink stations are staffed by volunteers, many from local running clubs and the local community. See the route section of this website for guidance on all locations.
When and where is the prize giving?
The prize giving will be in the Event HQ as you pass through the finish line. You must collect in person we will NOT post out! Prize giving will happen as we have all finishers in each category.

Parking
There is plenty of free parking around race HQ - see map above.
Mandatory Kit
The mandatory kit list has been on our website for a while now, so hopefully you will have already got your kit sorted. However just as a reminder: you are required to take with you, and have with you at all times, the following items:
- Waterproof jacket - not a bin bag or fashion jacket. It needs to have a waterproof membrane and taped seams.
- Waterproof trousers - as above
- Insulated layer OR fleece OR lightweight duvet jacket
- Long-sleeved top
- Hat and gloves
- Water bottle and or cup, there are none at any of the aid stations. (yes a water bladder counts as a bottle but then you WILL need a cup)
- Torch and spare batteries (or spare torch) AND a backlight or reflective/hi-viz and or a glow stick attached to your back. There are several road crossings and we want you to be seen and safe.
- Mobile phone (make sure this is fully charged and not being used as any kind of navigational aid) put our number in it now 07549 309 086
- Whistle
- Foil blanket
The mandatory kit is for all of you, there are no exceptions.
Note;
- If you run in a long-sleeved top, yes this counts as a long sleeved top
- No, you do not have to run in the waterproof jacket but yes you have to carry it
- Phone - the best phone you could use is a disposable pay as you go Vodafone, cost around £10.00 the battery will last for 3 or 4 days and unlike a smartphone, you will get a signal (this also frees up your smartphone for selfies, Facebook, Twitter and all the other ultra essentials).
Kit Check
This will happen at random times throughout the day. A member of our team will simply ask you to show one item from the above list. If you cannot produce the item from your own kit, you will be DQ'd on the spot.
